East Cary’s central location makes it one of the most conveniently located areas in the Triangle. However, growth on this side of town has been slower than other areas. The Cary Town Center Mall has struggled for years to bring in shoppers, and developers have only very recently started to take notice of the phenomenal real estate potential in this area.
But changes are coming and they are exciting ones!
Ikea recently announced that they will be taking over part of the Cary Town Center Mall for their new Triangle location. That very needed addition to the mall has prompted mall owners, CBL and Associates, to start planning other much needed updates to the struggling retail space.
In the coming years, CBL hopes Cary Towne Center will become a “dynamic mixed-use destination” with retail, restaurants, entertainment, apartments, grocery, office and green space, the company said Monday, announcing the second phase of a multi-phase redevelopment project.
CBL has hired an upscale Georgia architect, Dwell Design, to create the new shopping destination. CBL is the designer of Avalon in Alpharetta, Georgia.
But that isn’t all. Wegmans, the NY based grocery chain often longed for by our Northern Transplants, is planning their initial foray into the Triangle market in Cary’s Eastern Corridor as well. The site will be located directly across from the new Ikea space. Trinity Road will be expanded to connect to Cary Towne Center Blvd as you can see in the embedded video of this stunning virtual presentation below.
